Telstra has launched a new range of USB Based modems for the Next G Wireless. The Next G Wireless offers a speed averaging 550k to 1.5Mbps.

The range includes two USB alternatives. One is a USB modem stick similar to a USB Flash drive that you have to plug into the USB port of your computer. The device gets powered from the USB port itself so it does not require an external power source.

The other is a desktop version of the device. This version also is connected to the USB port of the computer but it does require a separate power source.

Analysts have come out with the conclusion that the devices are compatible with the future 7.2Mbps services. The devices are good but remember that good devices don’t come at a cheap prices and if you want them then you will have to spend a bit more than the other available alternatives.

The modems are external so the main advantage of the device for the laptop owners is that they will not heat up the palm rest of the system.

Both the devices also provide a support for the fastest plans that are available and can easily allow you to browse at 550Kbps to 1.5Mbps.

The devices are priced as:
BigPond Wireless Broadband Modem (Desktop USB modem) - $AU249
BigPond Wireless PCMCIA or USB modem - $AU299
