Experts are becoming more conscious about the possibility of the flash drive’s failure due to fragmentation. Fragmentation is adding to the problems with the growth of USB flash memory.

The fragmentation occurs with the saving of the file onto the hard disk. Since files are stored in adjoining groups, therefore at the time of retrieval the head leading the information, budges from one group to another on a same track. Even the files are stored in close groups and when files are erased, their occupied space becomes vacant for the new files created.

Problems heave up when the larger file than the vacant space is being stored. In this case the files start to fragment as the information in those files gets broken up and get space randomly on the disk.

The user becomes conscious of it only when the files take disproportionate long times to open. However, there are developers like Disklace who boast of their software that can measure the amount of fragmentation in flash drives, however, we doubt that dilutes the problem.
