For people who just don’t have the time sit and grab a proper breakfast and read their morning newspaper at the same, the Scan Toaster might be just the perfect home appliance. The unique design was conceptualized by designer Sung Bae Chang and even made it to the finals of a design competition held by appliance manufacturer Electrolux. The space-age gizmo connects to your PC via a USB port and downloads all kinda crap from weather to headlines or even cartoon strips right onto the bread. Thanks to a network of toasting “modules” heated by a hot wire, the toaster can burn content selected by the user on the slice. And this is where the old phrase “news you can use” starts to make real sense!

World class scanner from Visioneer

The latest offer from Visioneer, an innovative company offering solutions in the document imaging space has unveiled its latest offering. The super-slim, completely portable, plug and play, USB compatible is a high resolution color flatbed scanner — The Vsioneer One Touch 7300, which can scan up to 1200X1200 DPI in 48 bit color.

Featuring a super-slim look, the OneTouch 7300 scanner is powered by a USB Bus and has a smooth operating hinged lid to provide greatest mobility and flexibility to scan documents and pictures. The accompaniments with the hardware includes a suite of software which offers complete solution for small entrepreneurs. The flexible hinges on the lid enables users to scan thick books too, 3D objects and complex text very effectively.

Modern technology has enabled the OneTouch 7300 to have five main buttons to accomplish the functions of scan, copy, OCR, email, print and transfer files to the computer. One doesn’t have to bother opening the software in the PC to scan, just the press of a button can do this task. All the buttons are pre-programmed at their best usage for these common tasks, making it easy for novice users to start off instantaneously.

The main advantage of the OneTouch series of scanners is the interface which takes the users through the entire process of scanning just at the press of a button and doesn’t limit itself to opening the programme. Experts will quickly learn to tailor the scanner to their requirements and make the user experience even more powerful.

There are users who have been using this scanner and are very happy with this. They not only use it to scan but to copy, print, e-mail etc. I have come across users who have used all the features of the One Touch and swear by it.

Setting up the One Touch for use at your office is perhaps the easiest thing to do. One button or click of mouse can do wonders in this scanner. The USB interface makes it simply easy to install and connect to the PC/ laptop.

The only drawback or complaint I have about the product is the slight noise the scanner makes when it fires up for the first time. During all other tasks it is more or less silent. Priced at $75-85 I feel that this scanner is worth its money.

It can be quite frustrating for non-smokers (wink!) like me to walk into a room filled with cigarette smoke. I am sure most of you have had heated altercations with smoking colleagues for having fogged up the room. Well, your prayers have just been answered. Meet the USB Ashtray that not only acts as a stub-collector, but also a smoke vent.

The USB ashtray draws smoke from a room into its central inlet with the help of a powerful motor. The smoke is then filtered by a built-in filter and fresh air is discharged from an outlet located on the side. The company doesn’t promise you 100% pure air, but guarantees you of a significant difference in the air purity.

The USB ashtray can run with the help of USB power or four AA batteries during a power outage. The device retails at a decent $16.50. Go and get one for yourself.

Are you the USB port-hungry, computer geek who falls asleep opening letters and envelopes? If your answer manages to be ‘yes’, then this three in one, USB-hub/alarm clock/letter-opener may just be the right toy for you.

This cute thing features four USB ports, a fully automated letter opener and an alarm clock. All these in one complete and compact package. The hub runs on three AA batteries.

The time of availability or price of this product is yet to be disclosed. My guess is that the one who buys this device will definitely be some guy who doesn’t mind spending some extra bucks on a weirdo,
battery-hungry appliance that tries to do stuff like 007’s multipurpose watch. So we can surely expect the pricing to be somewhat expensive.

Goodness me ! With ‘complete packages’ like these rolling out, we can gleefully look forward to the days when a toothbrush will be used to guide people stranded in the dark and even cut carrots with.

Luxury phone makers Gresso seem to have taken some time out of their busy schedule and made Adam & Eve flash drives. Made of African Blackwood or African Mahogany and white diamonds, the flash drives look attractive and trendy.

The flash drives come in three shapes - a bitten apple, a cross and a simple rectangle. So, though the shapes are different the theme remains the same. Apparently, the bitten apple and cross shapes were designed for those who would like the religious angle to show while the rectangle one is for those who like the look of it but do not want to make themselves stand out as religious people. The flash drives will be out in the market in October and are priced between $300 and $1000.
